We want safe streets to walk, cycle, pop to the shop, go to the park and enjoy our communities without fear of fast cars.

Traffic where people live in South Lanarkshire goes too fast, making our streets unsafe and unpleasant. Children, people with disabilities, older people and people with caring responsibilities are most affected.

Evidence shows that 20mph cuts speeds, reduces road casualties, saves fuel, increases walking and cycling and improves local quality of life.

The United Nations endorses 20mph speed limits where people mix with motor vehicles, unless strong evidence exists that higher speeds are safe.

The Scottish Government requires that 20mph speed limits are put in place in all appropriate roads in built up areas by 2025. We believe this should include all roads and streets where people live.

South Lanarkshire Council are undertaking an assessment on which roads are to become 20mph and are likely to make recommendations to the Road Safety Forum in autumn.

Local residents want the council to implement 20mph where people live, work and play.
