The Issue

Another subject to be study! Is that what you are thinking?

That is not what I mean. There is already enough burden on the students.

What I mean is like there are life skills or other extra curricular activities. There could be a 40 minutes period once in a week that could get the youth of India closer to the nature.

There is no need to take examinations or make them read lengthy text books. Instead just take them for a nature walk or have an interesting debate about how they imagine the world after 50 years or so.

Ask the children questions like-

  1. Do you know why a tiger leaves behind just two pug marks?
  2. Do elephants mourn their loved ones?
  3. Why is a white tiger white in colour?
  4. Are all snakes poisonous?

Make them understand that wildlife is not dangerous until they disturb it. Give them knowledge about animal behaviour and nature.

Make them fall in love with it!

Due to lack of this education, countless number of  birds, animals and reptiles are killed every single day.

Huge mammals like tigers, leopards and even elephants are beaten to death by not just poachers and circus masters but also villagers who live around the forest.

Snakes are killed in such a large amount and there is not exact data for it. Half the time people are unaware about the fact that out of the 270 snake species in India only 60 are venomous. In areas like Manesar on the outskirts of Delhi, uncountable number of snakes are killed because people are illiterate.

It is high time to actually take a step towards conservation. If we want a change we need to start from the roots. Make the children fall in love with wildlife and nature and then see the change that follows.
