Insurance providers to cover Midwives in Alabama

The Issue

Maternal and infant mortality rates in Alabama are abysmal. The added stress of the COVID-19 outbreak has limited our state’s healthcare resources, and our society’s most vulnerable are at risk of being left behind.

Pregnant women are included as high-risk individuals during this time and social distancing regulations are limiting the availability of families and healthcare professionals to support pregnant and birthing mothers. These decisions are contributing to their emotional and mental stress, which could create or exacerbate medical conditions.

Alabama families need insurance providers to expand coverage for midwives. All data shows that access to and the presence of quality midwife services improves the mental, emotional, and physical health of mothers and their babies.

Please help Alabama mothers by signing and sharing this petition and contacting your legislators to support insurance coverage for midwives in our state.
