Installing Better Water Fountains to Reduce Single-Use Plastic in the Business School

Installing Better Water Fountains to Reduce Single-Use Plastic in the Business School
The Issue
We, the undersigned, students, faculty, and staff of the Chaifetz School of Business, are writing to express our growing concern about the increasing use of single-use plastic bottles on our campus. While the university has taken many important steps to promote sustainability, we believe that there is an opportunity for improvement in the area of accessible and environmentally friendly water sources within the business school.
The alarming amount of plastic waste generated by single-use water bottles is a significant issue that needs to be addressed immediately. The world produces more than 300 million tons of plastic each year, half of which is for single use, a hefty amount that often ends up in our oceans, causing irreversible damage to marine life.
Our proposal: Install multiple improved water fountains within the Business School premises. These fountains will be specifically designed to facilitate easy refilling of reusable bottles, calling a halt to unnecessary single-use plastic waste produced by the consumption of bottled water.
By implementing this solution, we can collectively reduce the plastic footprint of our school while encouraging others to follow suit. We depend on our school administrators to make this significant and sustainable change in our environment. Join us in our fight against plastic waste.
