The Issue

I am a 12-year-old living in Orleans, and like many of my peers, the swings are a core part of my childhood memories. It's a place of joy, laughter, and freedom. However, I've noticed something strikingly unfair in our community playgrounds – there are no swings accessible for disabled children and adults. This means that a part of the magic that makes these parks special is missing for many kids and families in Orleans.

Swings are more than just a play apparatus; they are an avenue for every child to experience the exhilaration and freedom that comes with swinging higher and higher into the sky. Unfortunately, not everyone has the opportunity to enjoy this simple pleasure because our current playgrounds do not accommodate those with disabilities. This has left a significant part of our community feeling excluded.

Inclusion means ensuring that people of all abilities can participate in all aspects of life, including play. Liberty swings, which are specially designed for children and adults with disabilities, provide this critical opportunity. By installing these disability-friendly swings in our local parks, we can offer everyone the same joyful play experiences.

The benefits are clear. Creating inclusive playgrounds in Orleans will not only spread joy but also foster understanding and compassion among children and adults alike. It will be a step toward building a more inclusive community where everyone feels valued and included. It's time to make Orleans parks places where everyone, regardless of ability, can enjoy and feel a part of the vibrant community.

Let’s urge the local council and park authorities to take action and install liberty swings in our playgrounds. It’s an achievable goal, and it's time that we prioritize inclusive play options. Together, we can make this change for the betterment of our community.

Please join me in calling for the installation of disability-friendly swings in Orleans. Sign this petition and help make our playgrounds places where everyone can come together in play.
