Campaign Update – 27th September 2024
We've been busy over the summer, pushing Fingal County Council and local councillors to take action on the dangerous conditions along Porterstown Road.

Over the last few months we met with Minister Jack Chambers, T.D., Senator Emer Currie and Councillors  Siobhan Shovlin and Ruth Coppinger. We were also in contact with Councillors John Walsh, Eimear Carbone Mangan and Ellen Troy.

Thanks to our efforts and local support, progress is finally being made.

Action at Fingal County Meeting
At the Council meeting on 26th September 2024, Councillors John Walsh (Labour), Ted Leddy (Fine Gael) and Siobhan Shovlin (Fine Gael) proposed motions, supported by Ruth Coppinger (Solidarity), to:
•  Reduce the speed limit.
•  Add traffic calming ramps.
•  Conduct a full safety review.

Councillor John Walsh stated at the meeting; "It’s not an accident waiting to happen; several serious accidents have already occurred, and unfortunately it’s only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured or killed on this road."

Councillor Ted Leddy added; "This road is a hive of activity... it’s dramatically different to what it was ten years ago, and the safety measures haven't kept up."

Highlighting pedestrian danger, Councillor Siobhan Shovlin said; "There was an accident in April at the pedestrian lights at Porterstown Park, and in June, a young boy was seriously injured. This is a huge issue."

Supporting the motion, Ruth Coppinger urged action; "I really hope the Traffic and Roads Department listens, as we don’t want somebody to be killed."

Speed Survey Underway
As of Thursday 26th September, Fingal County Council installed speed monitors along eight points of Porterstown Road from St Mochta’s Church to the Sandpits. The data will be reviewed in October, with recommendations expected at the Fingal County Council Area Meeting in November.

The full meeting can be viewed here: Blanchardstown-Mulhuddart/Castleknock/Ongar Area Committee (Services A - Operational Matters)

We Need More!!
While this is a step forward, we believe the proposed 50 kph speed limit isn’t enough given the road’s accident history. Stronger measures are needed to protect everyone.

Let’s keep the pressure on - sign our petition - to demand better safety for Porterstown Road.

Together, we can make Porterstown Road a safer place for everyone.
