Install speed tables on Marysville Blvd, Sacramento

Install speed tables on Marysville Blvd, Sacramento

The Issue

Living near Marysville Blvd in Sacramento, I'm deeply concerned for the safety of our community, especially our children. Our neighborhood, stretching between Rio Linda Blvd and Dry Creek Road, sees significant traffic, yet it's also home to a church school and a cemetery. This stretch is lined with residential homes where families with young children reside, making it imperative to address the speeding issues.

Numerous reports and personal observations have highlighted the alarming speed at which vehicles travel on this road. What might seem like a few moments of speeding can lead to tragic consequences, especially where children are present. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, pedestrians hit by a car traveling at 30 mph are significantly more likely to suffer fatal injuries than those hit at 20 mph. It's statistics like these that underline the urgency of our request.

Installing speed tables on Marysville Blvd can drastically reduce vehicle speeds, ensuring safer crosswalks for students and local residents.  Cars on this road typically travel at 60 mph or more.  Speed tables, unlike speed bumps, are long enough to allow comfortable passage when speed limits are adhered to, yet effective enough to deter speeding entirely. Cities similar to Sacramento have successfully implemented speed tables and witnessed a reduction in traffic-related incidents.

The City of Sacramento has both an opportunity and a responsibility to take proactive measures in safeguarding its residents. Funding and resources may be necessary, but the cost of inaction could be immeasurably higher, affecting lives and community well-being.

We have a chance to set a precedent for prioritizing safety over convenience. Support this petition to urge the City of Sacramento to install speed tables on Marysville Blvd, thereby transforming our neighborhood into a safer place for everyone. Your signature can make a difference and help create a safer environment for our children and community members.

Please sign this petition to show your support for making Marysville Blvd safer for everyone. Together, we can urge city officials to take swift action.
