The Issue

Yesterday morning, my drive along a winding road in our community left a tragic imprint on my heart. I came across a lifeless cat on the side of the road, clearly a victim of a speeding vehicle, another addition to the heartbreaking number of animals hit on this particular stretch. Having taken it upon myself to take the cat to the local vet to scan for a microchip, I contemplated the pain its owners would feel if they were left in the dark about their cherished pet's fate.

This road, like many in rural areas, is notorious for its sharp corner and the abundance of wildlife and domesticated animals that wander nearby. Speeding drivers, oblivious to the potential danger, often ignore the reduced visibility and tight turns, leading to devastating consequences for animals. But there's something we can do: installing speed bumps.

Speed bumps have been proven to reduce vehicle speed significantly, thereby decreasing the likelihood of tragic accidents involving both wildlife and pets. Implementing these simple structures on our road's sharp corners could drastically reduce these needless fatalities and foster a safer environment for everyone.

This isn't just about protecting animals; it's about creating a community that values safety and takes active steps to preserve the lives of its members, human and animal alike. We can take this small yet significant step together by advocating for that change.

Let us appeal to the local council, urging them to consider installing speed bumps on these hazardous corners to prevent more tragedies. We have the power to drive change for safety and compassion in our community.

Please join me in demanding action from our local council to ensure the safety of our beloved pets and our community's wildlife by signing this petition.
