Install Security Cameras in Springburn Park to Protect Wildlife

Install Security Cameras in Springburn Park to Protect Wildlife
The Issue
It pains me to share that our local wildlife is under threat by acts of brutal cruelty. Every year, our beautiful swans are ruthlessly targeted in the local park, with thoughtless youths resorting to throwing bricks, stones, and even lighting fireworks at these innocent creatures. In the past few months, we’ve lost 4 cygnets as a result of these attacks.
The police, unfortunately, claim that without concrete evidence, they can't take any action. It turns out, the heart of our issue is the complete lack of security surveillance in our community. Currently, Springburn Park does not have a CCTV installed to monitor the public spaces where the swans are located. The absence of adequate CCTV surveillance not only endangers our wildlife but also exposes locals to potential crime and safety threats. It is a stark contrast to other areas of Glasgow, where there’s an estimated one CCTV camera for every fourteen people (“Where in Britain are you Most Likely to be Watched by Surveillance Cameras?” The Telegraph, 13 Feb 2019). It’s time to bring a change.
We're calling on the Glasgow City Council to step in and install CCTV cameras around Springburn, with a primary focus on our parks and other spots where wildlife frequent. With your signatures supporting this call, we can ensure a safer environment for our animals and for our community. Please sign the petition today.
