Last weekend, in the rain, our amazing volunteers gave up their time to plant fruit trees that we'd spent months applying for grants to buy. They did it because they care about this community.

Then someone came along and stole one of them.

A double-grafted Minnie Royal' – 'Royal Crimson' Miniature Cherry Tree worth $180 disappeared sometime between 2pm Sunday and 8am Monday. It had only been in the ground for a day.

On top of that, our phantom worm thief has been back again, taking half the castings from our worm farms. This is now the third time in a few months.

To be honest, it's just un-Australian.

This garden isn't just about growing food. For many of us, it's our happy place. It's where people come to switch off, make friends, deal with stress, grief and loneliness. Therapy can cost around $180 an hour, but this garden gives people something just as valuable – connection and purpose. For many Padbury community garden is is more than just a garden . It’s a place to heal.

This is also why we've been pushing to install CCTV. We're asking our local State and Federal MPs to please help us work with the Mayor and the City of Joondalup so we can protect this community space.
