The Issue

Every day, myself and fellow neighbours have anxiety of walking our children near the busy street that borders the local soccer field. This street, a lifeline for many residents, has become notorious for its dangerous traffic conditions. Drivers, both day and night, use it as a stretch to test their speed limits, utterly disregarding the safety of those who live and play nearby. With numerous soccer tournaments held regularly, the area teams with children and families throughout the day. These young players and their supporters frequently cross the street, making them vulnerable targets to speeding vehicles.

Aside from soccer events, the field is a popular spot for children to play daily. However, instead of embracing their playful environment, they are exposed to the constant threat of speeding cars zooming by. The recurring incidents of speeding not only jeopardize the safety of our children but also create a setting where a tragic accident feels imminent.

Empirical evidence supports the effectiveness of speed bumps and/or proper signage that you’re nearing an open soccer field.  Reckless driving behaviours, and such a solution would serve as a deterrent to prevent vehicles from exceeding safe speeds in our neighbourhood.

Our goal is simple yet profound: the installation of speed bumps on this urgent stretch of road to enhance the safety for all. Working together, we can persuade local authorities to prioritize the safety of children and residents in Spruce Grove.

I urge you to consider the potential for these preventative measures to safeguard our community and bring peace of mind to families like mine. Please sign this petition to call for immediate action to install speed bumps on this dangerous road segment in Spruce Grove, AB. Together, we can make our streets safer for everyone. Thank you!
