As a concerned parent who has a child attend the local trampolining club in Hartlepool, I am shocked and upset by the recent refusal to install privacy curtains at the leisure centre where it is held. The club, which provides a safe and nurturing environment for our children to engage in healthy physical activity, has been denied the installation of removable curtains that would protect the privacy of our young ones. This decision places our children's safety at risk and needs urgent reevaluation.

There is a gym facing the hall where trampolining sessions take place, with large windows allowing a clear view inside. This lack of privacy creates a situation where any passerby can watch the children, leaving them vulnerable and exposed. Just last week, a stranger entered the premises and disturbingly inquired about watching the children. This incident underlines the urgent need for reinforced safeguarding measures to protect the wellbeing of our children.

In today's world, safeguarding children should be our topmost priority, and privacy during recreational activities is a crucial aspect of this. Many reputable sports and recreational facilities have implemented similar measures to ensure the safety and comfort of their young participants. The refusal to install curtains undermines the trust parents place in the club to protect their children. We cannot afford to overlook the safety implications here.

We are proposing a simple, effective, and affordable solution: install curtains or blinds on the windows facing the trampolining area. They will even be provided and put up and down each week by the club! This measure will prevent unwanted attention from outsiders, ensuring that our children can enjoy their trampoline sessions without any unnecessary concern or threat to their privacy. Furthermore, installing these curtains will reassure parents and guardians, knowing that the club is prioritising the safety and security of its members.

I urge Headland sports centre, Hartlepool to reconsider their decision and to take immediate action to install curtains in the gym and waiting area. By doing so, we will be sending a clear message that the safety of our children comes first.
