Install more recycling bins in BMC High School

Install more recycling bins in BMC High School
The Issue
Here at Bishop Moore Catholic High School, the lack of recycling bins is a glaring oversight that I believe urgently needs addressing. Every day, I watch my peers and teachers dispose of recyclables like paper, bottles, and plastic into general waste because there simply is no better option. This not only contributes to overflowing landfills but also deprives us of the opportunity to practice responsible waste management and environmental stewardship from a young age.
Recycling is an essential component of sustainable living, and schools should be at the forefront of teaching and practicing this fundamental aspect of environmental consciousness. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the average American generates about 4.9 pounds of waste per day, and only about 32% of that is recycled. Schools, as educational hubs, should lead by example and facilitate increased recycling efforts by providing adequate recycling facilities.
By installing more recycling bins across schools, we can encourage good habits among students and staff alike. This simple addition can foster an environment where recycling becomes a natural and habitual practice, influencing the larger community positively. Moreover, it could save schools money in waste management costs in the long term and contribute to a cleaner, healthier planet for future generations.
I am calling on school administrators, local authorities, and education departments to prioritize the environment by ensuring every school is equipped with sufficient recycling bins as shown in the image presented. Let’s not wait until tomorrow; implementing this change today will empower students with the knowledge and habits necessary to protect and preserve our planet.
