The Issue

I am a parent, one among many in the Lamar, AR,  community, who is anxiety-stricken every day when I send my child to school. This apprehension stems from the grim reality of recurring school shootings across the nation. I shouldn't have to worry if my child will come back home each day. This is why I propose that we strengthen the safety measures in our schools starting with the Lamar School District. Metal detectors are necessary.

By committing to install metal detectors in Lamar School District, we can reduce the likelihood of these tragic events. Unfortunately, the incidence of school shootings is not new – iso far this year there have been 29 school shootings across America (References: edweek.org). This is not simply a national statistic; it's a horrifying possibility that looms over every parent's head, every single day.

Although metal detectors cannot prevent all forms of harm, they can mitigate the risk of firearms entering our schools. They act as deterrents and can detect threats before they materialize, providing an additional layer of security for our students and faculty members.

We must make a unified stand against violence in our schools. The installment of metal detectors in the Lamar School District is an urgent measure that supports this cause. The safety of our children and the faculty is paramount and we should do everything within our power to maintain it. Join us in our fight for a safer learning environment. Sign this petition, and contribute to making our schools safer for all.
