Install lights at Redditch pump track
The Issue
Every day, hundreds of people, including myself, ride the Redditch Pump Track. It's more than just a place to ride bikes; it's a community hub where people of all ages come together to share their passion for cycling. This is particularly important in winter when outdoor activities are limited. Unfortunately, as soon as the sun sets, our beloved pump track becomes unusable due to the lack of lighting, especially during the busy after-school hours.
This issue impacts not only the hobbyists but families, children, and local sports enthusiasts who make the best of the time they have after school and work. During the winter months, when darkness falls swiftly, the lack of proper lighting at the track strips the community of this valuable recreational space. It's disheartening to see such an effective and positive outlet go dark over the cost of a few lights.
Several areas similar to Redditch have successfully enhanced their community spaces by installing energy-efficient LED lighting, which is both environmentally friendly and cost-effective to maintain. Installing lights at the Redditch Pump Track would not only provide a safe and secure environment but also ensure the community can continue to gather, exercise, and engage in healthy lifestyle choices year-round.
The benefits of keeping the pump track accessible throughout the year far outweigh the costs. Lighting would extend the track's usability into the early evenings, fostering more community engagement, reducing the risk of accidents that occur when visibility is low, and promoting a healthier lifestyle for all users.
Let's preserve this vital part of our community and invest in our town’s infrastructure for the benefit of all Redditch residents. We ask the local council and community leaders to prioritize the installation of lighting at the pump track, ensuring its use during winter evenings.
Please sign this petition to support the installation of lights at Redditch Pump Track, so we can all continue to enjoy this wonderful resource safely during the winter months.
