Install Lighting at Issaquah Tibbets Valley Skatepark for Extended Use

The Issue

Tibbets Valley Skatepark located in Issaquah WA is a bustling hub for skateboarders of all ages and backgrounds. Despite Washington's rainy climate limiting our skate time in winter, we persist because of our shared passion for the sport. However, by December it gets dark as early as 4-5 PM, drastically reducing the hours we can use this beloved facility.

Our plea is simple - we need lights installed at the Issaquah Skatepark. This isn't an unprecedented request; after all, the baseball field right next to us boasts massive stadium lights that allow games to continue well into the evening. Why should skateboarders be left in the dark?

According to a study by The University of California Transportation Center (UCTC), well-lit public spaces not only increase usage but also enhance safety and community engagement. By installing lights at our skatepark, we would be promoting these positive outcomes right here in Issaquah.

We understand that there may be concerns about noise or light pollution affecting nearby residents. However, modern lighting technology offers solutions such as directional lighting and timed shut-offs that can mitigate these issues effectively. Also, this location would be perfect due to the lack of residential areas nearby and a public transit center located right across the street.

This petition isn't just about extending skateboarding hours; it's about recognizing and supporting a vibrant community within Issaquah that deserves equal consideration as other sports enthusiasts.

Let's shine a light on this issue together! Please sign this petition to urge local authorities to install proper lighting at the Issaquah Tibbets Valley Skatepark.
