Install LED Lights @ Carlmont High School Belmont

Install LED Lights @ Carlmont High School Belmont
The Issue
One might think that a modern campus like Carlmont would have already implemented well-known and cost-effective energy measures. Unfortunately, that is not the case. In 2015, as part of Carlmont's official facilities master plan, the school board resolved to replace energy-efficient halogens and florescent lights with LED lighting. So far, not much has been done about that resolution. Why does this matter? LED lighting is more energy efficient than traditional incandescent bulbs; in fact, LEDs use over 75% less watts. Less energy = less money & less gas. If the district ever fully follows through on their expressed desire to upgrade our school’s lighting, it would save both the environment and school funds. According to an audit conducted by ABM of the whole district, presented to the school board in the July of last year, our lighting is mostly halogen and florescent lights, with some LEDs. ABM estimated that if the school board retrofitted the entire district with energy efficient lighting, SUHSD could save anywhere from 50-80% on its electric utility bill. If you believe that the Board of Trustees should follow through on retrofitting Carlmont and other schools with LED lighting, please sign.
