Residents are calling on Islington Council to install CCTV coverage around the play and sports area on the Westbourne Estate, located between Roman Way and Bride Street.

This recreation space is regularly used by children and residents from the surrounding area. It provides an important outdoor space for recreation and sport within the local community.

A fatal shooting near the children’s playground in 2020 and the fatal stabbing of a 15-year-old boy on Westbourne Road in December 2025.

These serious incidents have raised understandable concerns about safety in the area.

A space intended for children’s recreation and community use should feel safe and protected. Installing CCTV cameras in this location could:

• Act as a deterrent to serious crime and antisocial behaviour

• Assist police investigations if incidents occur

• Improve safety for people using the facilities

• Provide reassurance to residents living nearby

Given the serious incidents that have taken place in the area, the absence of CCTV near a children’s recreation space raises legitimate public safety concerns.

We respectfully ask Islington Council to review safety measures and install CCTV coverage around the play and sports area on the Westbourne Estate as a matter of priority.
