Install CCTV in Manor House Gardens

Install CCTV in Manor House Gardens
The Issue
After the mugging of two 14-year-old girls, and separately two 12-year-old boys, at the weekend and the vandalism of the multi-sports area before that (the police have made more than 30 call outs to MHG in the past three months alone), our community is deeply concerned and calls for immediate action. Our children deserve a safe space to enjoy leisure activities without fear or intimidation. Manor House Gardens should be a haven for both local families and visitors, where everyone can enjoy their time without worrying about their safety.
In recent times, the increase in mugging incidents and antisocial behaviour, particularly around the tennis and football areas, has created a sense of unease among park goers. Parents are worried about letting their children play freely, and the once vibrant community hub is at risk of losing its welcoming atmosphere.
A viable and proven solution to counter these issues is the installation of CCTV cameras in strategic locations throughout Manor House Gardens, including the sports areas and all entry points. This measure will serve as a deterrent to potential crime and antisocial behaviour, aiding law enforcement in identifying and prosecuting offenders. CCTV has been shown to reduce crime rates by over 58% in urban parks across the UK, according to a recent study by the Urban Development Institute.
Installing CCTV will not only help catch criminals but also restore confidence among residents to utilise the park freely and frequently. It will encourage families, sports enthusiasts and dog owners to return, rejuvenating the community spirit that is a hallmark of Lewisham.
We urge Lewisham Council, and its park operator Glendale Services, to commit to the proposed installation of CCTV in Manor House Gardens as a priority. The safety of our children and residents should be of utmost importance, ensuring that our park remains a beloved space for all.
Support our petition to make Manor House Gardens Park a safer and more enjoyable space for everyone in our community.
