Install Adequate Drainage at CV Kelly Park Girraween to Safeguard Our Sporting Ground
The issue
My children, along with hundreds of other kids in Girraween, NSW, Australia, are being robbed of their right to play and participate in sports at our local ground - CV Kelly Park Girraween. Due to insufficient drainage systems, the sporting ground becomes unusable whenever it rains, causing frequent closures and cancellations of sporting events. The current substandard drainage system that Cumberland City Council has put in place is simply ineffective. Our children’s ability to engage in sports and physical activities, which are crucial for their physical and mental health, is being drastically compromised.
Every year, rainfall in Girraween averages around 833 mm (Australian Bureau of Meteorology, 2019), a number significant enough to highlight the necessity of an efficient drainage system. By neglecting the critical requirement for improved infrastructure, the council is inadvertently causing disruption to local sporting schedules and to residents who rely on this space for recreational activity.
We urge Cumberland City Council to immediately address this issue by upgrading and installing proper drainage at CV Kelly Park Girraween. This action will not only enhance the durability and usability of the park but also safeguard the health and wellbeing of our children and community.
We call on every resident of Girraween and anyone who values public sporting facilities to stand with us. Sign this petition today to raise our voice and ensure that Cumberland City Council takes prompt action to rectify this longstanding issue.
