The Issue

My family and I have lived near the intersection of Grant Road and Babcock Street in Palm Bay for over a decade. Over these years, we've seen our community grow, but with this growth has come an alarming increase in traffic accidents at this intersection. This issue is not just statistical - it's personal. We've witnessed devastating accidents, and some fatal.

This isn't just about us; it's about all residents and concerned citizens who are affected by this dangerous situation daily. Over the past few years alone, there has been a significant rise in traffic incidents at this location. The frequency and severity of these accidents highlight an urgent need for action.

We urge Brevard County government and the City of Palm Bay to install a traffic light at the intersection of Grant Road and Babcock Street. This simple act could drastically reduce the number of accidents occurring here, making our community safer for everyone.

Please join us in calling for immediate action to protect our neighbors' lives by signing this petition today and contacting our District 3 Brevard County Commissioner John Tobia

Update as of 4/1/2024:

I received an email from the City of Palm Bay. I am sharing it here:

Mr. Sallade,

Good morning and I am the City Engineer responding on your request for a traffic signal at the intersection of Babcock Street and Grant Road.   Please know this intersection is maintained by Brevard County and the installation of a traffic signal requires an engineering study which would include a traffic signal warrant analysis.   I understand your concern for traffic safety and below is from the latest regional Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) safety study which does show this intersection as a high crash location.   Copying Brevard County Traffic Engineering to assist on your request to review this intersection for any traffic safety improvements.   Copying others and if you have any question, please call, or email me.

Hope this helps.
