The Issue

In the past three years, I have tragically lost two beloved cats due to speeding cars along Westwind Drive. It is a personal loss that underscores a much larger issue concerning safety in our neighborhood. My young kids, along with numerous others in our community, are still in the process of learning and understanding road safety rules. Our streets should be a space where children can play and grow without the constant fear of speedy vehicles endangering their lives.

The city had previously promised to install another speed limit sign on this stretch of road between Chatham and Falmouth Drive, yet the problem persists, and drivers continue to exceed safe speeds. While speed limit signs serve as reminders, they clearly have not been enough to change reckless driving habits on our street.

Installing a stop sign and/or speed bumps at this critical juncture is not just a reactive measure but a proactive solution to prevent potential tragedies. Stop signs and speed bumps force drivers to halt, meaning they have to evaluate the intersection carefully before proceeding. This small act could drastically reduce speeding and improve safety for everyone, especially our children.

Imagine the unthinkable happening right in our neighborhood – a child getting hurt because we failed to act in time. I, along with other parents, cannot allow it to reach that point. It's time to prioritize our safety and the well-being of our community's youngest members by implementing simple yet effective traffic calming measures.

We urge the local council and traffic authorities to install a stop sign and speed bumps on Westwind Drive between Chatham and Falmouth Drive immediately. This crucial safety feature will not only protect our children but also serve as a constant reminder for drivers to slow down and respect our community's safety.

Please sign this petition to demonstrate the community's desire for a safer neighborhood for our kids and pets. Together, we can make a change that will prevent needless heartache and create a secure environment for all.
