My daughter and I are dedicated members of the UNSW Hockey Club. We are increasingly frustrated because home games are scheduled at inconvenient times due to the limited availability of the pitch at Dave Philips Sports Field. This is not just a minor inconvenience; it affects our ability to enjoy and excel in our sport.

Adding to the inconvenience, my daughter also plays hockey with St Vincent's College Potts Point. While the team trains at Dave Philips, their games against other schools in the Eastern Suburbs require a lengthy commute, often more than an hour's drive each way. This not only leads to wasted time and increased fuel costs but also hinders parents encouraging their children to participate in the sport.

The solution? Installing a second hockey pitch at Dave Philips Sports Field. This would not only alleviate the scheduling difficulties faced by families like ours but also bolster local participation in hockey. By providing more opportunities for matches to be played locally, we reduce travel stress and costs, thus making it easier for children to stay active and participate in the sport.

Furthermore, a second pitch would benefit the entire hockey community. The additional facility would allow more teams to train and compete in a centralized location, streamlining logistics for game days and practice sessions. This would foster a stronger community spirit, greater attendance at games, and possibly even higher levels of performance.

Increased local accessibility to sports facilities is vital in promoting a healthy, active lifestyle among young people. By enhancing the infrastructure at Dave Philips Sports Field, we demonstrate a commitment to supporting future generations of athletes.

There is already a dedicated space for the field in the Dave Philips precinct and now is the time to convert it from a run-down half-size synthetic soccer pitch into a hockey field and providing the Eastern Suburbs with a world class sporting facility.
