Install a Safe Pedestrian Crossing on North Deeside Rd, Outside Morrisons Banchory
La causa

On Friday 8th May, my 4-year-old daughter was nearly struck by a car while crossing the North deeside Road outside Morrisons, Banchory. I was with her at the time, pushing my 7-month-old in a pram. We stopped at the central island but my daughter continued walking into the road. Fortunately the driver was able to brake in time, but it was the most frightening experience of my life and it has left me shaken.
The vast majority of residents who walk to Morrisons have to cross the North Deeside Road with no obligation on drivers to stop. That includes:
• Families with young children and prams
• Elderly residents
• Primary school children, who cross here every day at lunchtime
The road is already designated 20mph so the council knows this stretch needs caution. But a speed limit alone is not enough. We need a pedestrian crossing with lights, where drivers are legally required to stop.
We are calling on Aberdeenshire Council to:
1. Carry out an urgent pedestrian safety assessment of this location
2. Install a signalised pedestrian crossing outside Morrisons
3. Act now, before a child is seriously injured
If you live in Banchory or the surrounding area, and care about road safety for children and families, please sign and share this petition.
Please add your town or postcode in the comments so we can show Aberdeenshire Council how many local residents are calling for change.
We need immediate action to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of our community.
Thank you!
