The Issue

The intersection of W Hastings Rd and N Washington St has been the site of countless accidents, making it a hazardous crossing point for Mead students. As a current student at Mead high school, i have seen firsthand the dangers of this intersection. This is not just an isolated concern; it affects the entire community and future generations of students.

The safety of our students should be the priority, and the installation of a red light crosswalk at this intersection is a critical step in addressing this issue. According to local traffic studies, intersections with properly marked crosswalks and traffic signals reduce accidents by up to 48%. Implementing such measures here will significantly decrease the risk of accidents and enhance the safety of everyone, including drivers and pedestrians.

We are not asking for something extraordinary. Simply a measure that will ensure students, parents, and teachers can feel safe. The local authorities have a responsibility to protect the community, especially in areas frequented by young students.

Please help me in urging the Spokane County traffic department and local government to prioritize the installation of a red light crosswalk at the Mead High School intersection. Together, we can create a safer environment for our current students and those who will follow. Your support can make a difference. Sign this petition to make our voices heard and to keep our school community safe.
