The Issue

To: Mayor Jeff Gee, District 6 City Council Member Diane Howard, Redwood City Department of Transportation

We, the undersigned residents of Redwood City, urgently request the installation of traffic calming measures, including a pedestrian-activated traffic signal, at the intersection of Jefferson Ave and St. Francis. This intersection serves as a critical connection between the Eagle Hill neighborhood and Red Morton Park, a beloved community asset.

Red Morton Park is home to soccer fields, the Magical Bridge Playground, and numerous community events. However, crossing Jefferson Ave to access the park and return home is extremely dangerous. The intersection is on a curve with low visibility, poorly marked crosswalks, and high-speed traffic, especially during rush hour or after dark. We fear for our children, our pets, and ourselves every time we attempt to cross this street.

Yellow Sign at Jefferson and St. Francis stating, "Is Today The Day... Your Speed Hurts a Child?"

The current traffic calming mechanisms at Jefferson Ave and St. Francis are inadequate

We urge the city to install a pedestrian-activated traffic signal, similar to the one at Jefferson Ave and Clinton St, to ensure safe passage for families, children, pets, and all community members. No one should risk their life to access a park.

Please prioritize this critical safety improvement to protect our community and make Redwood City a safer place for everyone.

Sincerely,
