Decatur, Texas, a town where community bonds are close, and where everyone's safety matters, has a dangerous crossroad that invites tragedy. This intersection personally wrenched my heart, as my little sister Ella was T-boned here. It happened because a lady driver couldn't see the oncoming traffic. She wasn't aware of the fast-approaching septic truck until it was too late to avoid a crash.

We need a sign put up at this crossroad. A sign that clearly states “oncoming traffic does not stop.” This would give drivers who aren't familiar with the area a fair warning so they can navigate safely. According to The National Safety Council, signs at intersections have proven to significantly reduce the number of collisions (National Safety Council Report, 2019). Decatur should not be the exception.

We cannot go on with the heartbreak of knowing that we could have prevented such accidents from happening. From the swamps of the Trinity to the ranches of Indian Springs, let us put aside our differences, rally together, and demand the immediate installation of this critical traffic sign. Protect families like my own who have gotten hurt like our beloved Ella.
