This past weekend a 73 year old pedestrian was killed at the intersection of N. Plandome Rd and Murray Ave. This intersection urgently needs a 4 way stop sign.

There is a tremendous amount of motor vehicle traffic at this intersection with Murray Ave being the only straight cross through to Mackey from Plandome Rd. In addition, the entrance to the Bayview Colony neighborhood sits on the west side of this intersection and its residents must cross N. Plandome Rd to travel down Murray.  In the northbound direction, traffic moves particularly quickly as there is not a single stop sign on North Plandome Rd between Manhasset and the Dolphin Green Apartment complex.

In addition to the vehicle traffic, this is a widely used pedestrian intersection. Because of the blind curves on N Plandome rd at Huntington and near the PW yacht club, Murray is the “safest” place to cross plandome rd. Many residents from Port Washington estates, Bayview Colony, Dolphin Green Apartments, and Manhasset Bay estates cross N. Plandome Rd at this intersection while exercising, walking their dogs, going to/from school, or walking to the local yacht clubs. 

Area residents have complained for years about the dangers of this intersection and there have been numerous minor accidents. Now a person has died. It is time for action. Please sign this petition and urge the Town of North Hempstead to take immediate action to protect the resident of Port Washington by installing a 4 way stop sign.
