To address these challenges, we are initiating a petition urging Instagram to reform its system with two primary goals:

 

Goal 1: Add Human Interaction to the Support Process

Reduce Bot Activity: Instagram should diminish the reliance on automated bots for flagging accounts. We propose the inclusion of human reviewers who can evaluate flagged accounts, taking appropriate actions or dismissing false reports.

Direct Human Communication: Users should have the option to communicate with a human representative either over the phone or through email. Automated responses often lead to frustration, and having direct human interaction can expedite the resolution process.

Timely Human Responses: When users submit appeals, Instagram should commit to providing a human response within 3-7 days. Clear steps for reactivation should be communicated promptly, enhancing user experience and satisfaction.

Customer Support via Email: Introduce a dedicated customer support email to facilitate direct communication between users and representatives.

Goal 2: Make Rules Transparent & Provide a Warning Before Suspending/Banning

Transparent Guidelines: Instagram should publish a clear set of rules, guidelines, and terms for users to follow. This transparency will help users understand the platform's expectations and avoid unintentional violations.

Warning System: Before suspending or banning an account, Instagram should issue at least one warning, specifying the violated rule and providing a link to relevant guidelines. This proactive approach ensures users are informed before facing severe consequences.

Debugging the Automated System: Instagram needs to refine and debug its automated system for flagging accounts. By doing so, the platform can reduce the chances of unjustly banning accounts based on false reports or misunderstandings.

Improved Appeal System: The appeal system should be thoroughly tested and debugged to guarantee users have a fair chance to reactivate their accounts. A seamless process will empower users to address issues promptly.
