The issue

Every year, tens of thousands of animals are killed in slaughterhouses. This not only affects the quality of the animals as well as the environment, but it is also a completely abhorrent way to kill animals.

This petition proposes that slaughterhouses in Australia receive regular inspection from not only animal rights organisations but also National and State Governments. While the RSPCA currently inspect slaughterhouses, it would be better for everyone if the process of inspection was undertaken by an actual Government Department instead of a charity. In these inspections, the Government would take note of any animal rights violations and punish slaughterhouses for breaking the law.

What happens in slaughterhouses is clearly animal abuse. While this petition does not ask the government to completely outlaw slaughterhouses, it asks the government to be held more accountable for poor treatment of animals, and to try to prevent animal abuse.
