As a proud Australian citizen, I am moved to start this petition out of my belief that our national anthem should better embody the profound spirit of our nation. Our current anthem, 'Advance Australia Fair', while historic, seems out of touch with present values and lacks the pieces that truly represent us.

The song 'I am Australian' by the legendary band, The Seekers, encapsulates who we Australians truly are and portrays our core values. The song's lyrics are a testament to cultural diversity, unity and resilience which characterise Australia in today's era.

For a comparison, a 2017 survey by "The Age" revealed that 38% of the population couldn't accurately sing the current anthem's second verse. Yet, 'I am Australian' is a piece that has lyrically been cherished in our hearts, sung from classrooms to sporting events. This demonstrates how much this song resonates with people, and the love Australians have for it.

I believe it is time for a change. It is time to replace 'Advance Australia Fair' with an anthem that reaches the depths of every Australian heart. An anthem we can all sing with enthusiasm and pride.
