HEALTHY DOGS SHOULD NOT BE 'EUTHANISED' BY VETS ON REQUEST. MAKE OPTIONS MANDATORY

The Issue

Dog charities or pounds may  accept unwanted dogs from the general public.

Local authorities have also the power to accept unwanted dogs and put them down if they cannot be rehomed or transferred to an animal welfare group. Sometimes no effort is made to relocate the dog.

Regarding Dogs being euthanized. Determining whether or not an animal can be rehabilitated or re-homed is completely subjective and up to the individual veterinarian. Most veterinarians will do all that they can to avoid convenience euthanasia and only do so after all viable options are considered. Sometimes, it may even be in the animal’s best interest. No veterinarian is required to euthanize a healthy animal; rather, they should ideally carefully consider any other options that may be available. The dogs life hangs in the balance. Many dogs are innocent of any wrong doing and should be left alive at all costs despite the handy option request to kill for convenience.

Unfortunately in many cases absolutely no effort is made, the dog is killed on request of whoever arrives at the Vet with the unfortunate dog. This is what we want to legislate for. It is totally down to the vet to kill the dog on request and no requirement is made to liase with rescues or other rehoming groups to save the dogs life. Lies from families too ignorant to care for the dog comes into play.

EVERY DOG DESERVES A CHANCE, EVERY DOG DESERVES LIFE.

HAVE MANDATORY ASSESSMENT FOR EVERY DOG.
