Friends, I've indicated in my previous updates that another man, Christopher Parish, had also been tried, convicted, and sentenced as a participant in the robbery for which Keith Cooper is still awaiting a pardon. I have found the 2012 Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals decision in favor of Mr. Parish's suit against the City of Elkhart. It's an interesting read partly because it details that the victim of the 1997 robbery, a Michael Kershner, has since identified a Johlanis Ervin and his brother Michael as the actual shooters. Mr. Ervin's DNA is a match for the DNA on the hat recovered at the scene of the crime. He is currently in prison in Michigan for a 2002 murder in that state. I suppose that the office of the governor will be closed until Tuesday, after the holiday. I do thank everyone who has been calling the office; I do believe that is having an effect. If you have a few minutes and want to take an extra action, please email Indiana's Democratic candidate to be the next governor, John Gregg, asking him to take a public position in support of a pardon for Keith Cooper: john@greggforgovernor.com. I think with enough public support and input, we can get him on board. Please help with this. I also think we need to let Curtis Hill know that role in this has been observed. Mr. Hill has a Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/curtishillforindiana/, and a campaign email address, info@curtishillforindiana.com. Earlier this year, Michael Christofeno, the original prosecutor in the 1997, wrote a letter calling repudiating his original prosecution and calling upon Governor Pence to pardon Keith Cooper. Why not tell Curtis Hill that Mr. Christofeno's example is one he can follow?
