Friends, We are close to 103,000 signatures on the petition. Though I would like for the petition become viral again, it's still a great number. Thank you to everyone who has signed the petition. To get the petition going again, please consider sharing it on your social media sites: Facebook, Twitter, and whatever else. If you've shared it once, please do it again. I still have Facebook friends signing it for the first time. And if we get 1000s of shares, maybe we'll trend on Facebook and get more nationwide attention to this. I think one of our best strategies has been to call the office of Governor Pence. He is in Indiana today at a campaign event. Would you consider calling (or calling again), asking what action is being taken on the pardon. Please challenge the answer that the pardon is still under consideration. It has had that status since March 2014, so, no, it's not under consideration unless it's going to cost Pence something. Please make it clear that a refusal to sign will cost him something. 317-232-4567. We still have never gotten the attention of the national press to Keith Cooper's story. So I would like to try targeting two media venues again. First, NPR. Here's a link for pitching a story to NPR: http://help.npr.org/customer/portal/emails/new We have 103,000 signatures. If 1000-3000 of you would pitch Keith Cooper's story to NPR, I would bet on the story getting told. Please do. And when you do, please include a link, not just to the petition, but to the coverage in the Chicago Tribune, the Indianapolis Star, or any of the editorials you can find by googling "Keith Cooper pardon." The point isn't the petition. The point is the story. Then let's do the same thing with the Huffington Post: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/contact/ Use the "Give Us the Scoop" email links there. Keith Cooper's case needs to become part of the gubernatorial campaign in Indiana. I emailed John Gregg's campaign about the case, and I haven't figured out how to contact Eric Holcomb's campaign. But I want both candidates to pledge that if elected, he will sign a pardon (if Pence refuses to do it to the end of his term). I haven't heard back from John Gregg, but I think we can get him on board. So send his campaign an email, asking him to promise, publicly, that he will sign the pardon if it gets to him: john@greggforgovernor.com We can also suggest the pardon as a part of a discussion of race relations in Indiana. The Indiana Debate Commission is looking for suggested questions for the upcoming gubernatorial debates. Ask them to as the candidates about pardoning Keith Cooper. See "Submit your questions at the top right of this page: http://indianadebatecommission.com/ By the way, last week when we did this, we overwhelmed a newspaper's email system, and I got an angry message. And still no press. So, so what if we overwhelm an email system. Show people the seriousness of this cause. Have a great weekend!
