The Issue

As local residents and Councillors for the Sowerby Bridge area, we regularly hear from people who rely on the train to get to work, education, appointments and everyday activities. However, Sowerby Bridge station currently only receives two trains per hour, which limits travel options for many in our community.

For commuters travelling to Halifax, Leeds, Manchester and beyond, reliable and frequent train services are essential. Students, workers and older residents all depend on accessible public transport to reach opportunities and essential services. When train services are limited, it can create unnecessary barriers for people trying to go about their daily lives.

Sowerby Bridge is a growing community with a busy town centre and increasing numbers of visitors who come to enjoy the canals, countryside and local businesses. Improving train services would not only make life easier for residents, but would also support the local economy and encourage more sustainable travel by providing a convenient alternative to driving.

As your local Councillors, we believe Sowerby Bridge deserves better rail connectivity.

We are calling on Network Rail, the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Calderdale Council’s transport partners to work together to increase the number of trains stopping at Sowerby Bridge station.

Please sign and share this petition to show your support for better rail services for our community.

Yours,

Councillor Adam Wilkinson, Councillor Simon Ashton and Councillor Dot Foster
