I have witnessed the devastating impact of low wages on my loved ones. Family and friends, despite their hard work, have been pushed into homelessness because they simply cannot afford the high cost of living in Ontario on a $17 per hour wage. The money they earn is immediately spent on transportation costs, leaving little for other necessities.

The cost of living in Ontario is among the highest in Canada. With rent and food prices constantly rising and gas prices showing no signs of decreasing, individuals earning minimum wage are left struggling to make ends meet. According to Statistics Canada, as of 2019, nearly 30% of households spend more than 30% of their income on shelter costs alone (Statistics Canada). This does not even take into account other essential expenses such as food and transportation.

It's time we addressed this issue head-on by increasing the minimum wage to $25 per hour across Ontario. This would help ensure that all workers can afford basic necessities without having to worry about falling into poverty or becoming homeless.
