Increase TAFE Teachers' Pay to Match Industry Standards

The issue

I, like many of my peers, am a student at my local TAFE and an apprentice. Our teachers, who are trade-qualified professionals, go above and beyond to ensure we receive the best possible education. They've chosen to devote their careers to teaching the next generation, despite the opportunity to earn more in their respective industries. Unfortunately, they've been undervalued and mistreated by the TAFE management, sparking a justified ongoing strike action. It's high time for change.

As it stands now, our educators' remuneration is not in line with industry standards. This is not sustainable. These educators deserve an equitable and prompt pay rise. There's an urgent need for TAFE to re-enter negotiations, not just to end the current strike action, but to show due respect and recognition for these dedicated teachers.

The disparity in salary also represents a roadblock for others entering the teaching profession. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the average income for professional educators in tertiary institutions is significantly higher than that of TAFE teachers.
