My 19-year-old daughter tragically lost her life to a fentanyl overdose last year. This devastating event has brought to light the urgent need for improved substance use disorder services in our community of Evansville, Indiana. Substance use disorders are a growing problem nationwide, with over 20 million Americans struggling with this issue according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Tragically, my daughter is one of the many victims of this crisis.

In Evansville alone, we have seen an alarming increase in overdoses related to substances such as fentanyl. Yet despite these harrowing statistics, our community lacks sufficient resources and services to effectively address this issue.

We urgently need more comprehensive services that include prevention programs, treatment facilities and post-treatment support systems. We must ensure that those battling substance use disorders receive the help they desperately need before it's too late.
