Increase Recycling Bins in Camden for a Sustainable Future

The Issue

Every day as I walk through the streets of Camden, I'm struck by the sheer amount of waste that simply doesn't have a place to go. What's the point of having a recycling bin in my home if there aren't enough in our community to make a difference? It's frustrating to witness this on a daily basis, knowing the detrimental impact it has on our planet and future generations.

In Camden Town, recycling facilities are glaringly insufficient. As our population grows, so does the amount of waste we produce. According to Camden Council's own waste statistics, the borough generated over 140,000 tonnes of waste in 2022, yet less than 35% of it was recycled. This is significantly below the average recycling rate across England, which stands at 44%.

This lack of adequate recycling infrastructure not only contributes to landfill overflow, thereby releasing more greenhouse gases but also exacerbates the ongoing climate crisis. In a world where climate change is no longer a distant threat but a present crisis, our community needs to act swiftly and decisively.

Our streets need more recycling bins strategically placed to ensure easy access and increased recycling rates among residents and visitors alike. Installing more recycling bins is an actionable step that Camden Council can take to improve our local environment and set an example for other boroughs to follow.

Join me in asking Camden Council to increase the number of recycling bins across the town. Let's make recycling as convenient as possible for everyone, reduce waste sent to landfills, and contribute positively to fighting climate change. Sign this petition if you believe Camden deserves better recycling infrastructure to safeguard our environment for future generations.
