Increase Probables Teams for HCA's Cooch Behar Trophy Selection

The Issue

Petition to the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA)

To:

Mr. Jaganmohan, President, HCA
Mr. Devaraj, Secretary, HCA

Who Is Impacted?

Young, talented U19 cricketers across Hyderabad are being unfairly excluded from the opportunity to represent their state in the upcoming Cooch Behar Trophy. These players, who have dedicated countless hours to training and have proven their skills in red-ball cricket, are being sidelined due to a restrictive selection process that limits the number of probables teams.

What Is at Stake?

If this unjust selection process continues, many deserving players will lose the chance to showcase their talent on a national stage. This not only hampers their individual careers but also undermines the strength and future of Hyderabad cricket. A fair selection process is crucial to field the best team possible and to maintain the integrity of the sport we all love.

Why Is Now the Time to Act?

The Cooch Behar Trophy matches are scheduled to begin on November 6th, leaving us with little time to rectify this situation. Immediate action is essential to ensure that all deserving players are given a fair chance. Delaying changes to the selection process will solidify an unfair system and could have long-lasting negative effects on the development of cricket talent in Hyderabad.

Our Demands

  1. Increase Probables Teams to Six Now: Form six teams of 12 players each, totalling 72 players, to ensure a fair and comprehensive selection process.

  2. Implement Fair Selection Practices Immediately: Selectors should not limit the probables teams unjustly. The selection process must be transparent and based on merit.

  3. Use Relevant Performance Criteria: Base selection on performances in red-ball, multi-day league matches, aligning with the format of the Cooch Behar Trophy.

  4. Include All Qualified Players Without Delay: Allow all HCA Academy U19 players who have cleared fitness tests to participate in the probables.

  5. Recognise Outstanding Achievements: Include players who have scored a century, taken a five-wicket haul in league matches, represented Hyderabad state in U16, or been selected for the NCA.

Call to Action

We urgently request the HCA to address these concerns:

  • Maintain the Sanctity of the Selection Process: Ensure that every deserving player gets a fair opportunity to compete.
  • Promote Transparency and Fairness: The selection process should be open to scrutiny and based on relevant performance metrics.
  • Support the Future of Hyderabad Cricket: By fostering a fair environment, we nurture talent that can represent Hyderabad at higher levels.
