Increase Police Patrols in Sunbury to Address Rising Crime

The issue

To:

The Hon. Josh Bull MP, Member for Sunbury
Hume City Council
Victoria Police (Sunbury Police Station)

We, the undersigned residents and concerned members of the Sunbury community, call for an urgent increase in visible police patrols and resources dedicated to our suburb.

In recent months, Sunbury has seen a worrying rise in criminal activity, particularly break-ins and stolen vehicles. According to 2024 crime statistics, Sunbury recorded 1,909 criminal offences, including 711 thefts and 155 burglaries. These figures have left many residents feeling unsafe in their own homes and on local roads.
These figures have left local business owners deeply concerned for their stores and outlets.

The Victorian Government allocated $4.51 billion to Victoria Police for the 2024–25 financial year to support policing services across the state.
It seems that Sunbury police station has obviously been left off the distribution list.

Recently, thieves spent almost two hours breaking into several neighbouring shops with no interruption. This is very concerning.

In September 2024, a major police operation resulted in over 20 arrests in our area and the recovery of five stolen vehicles—highlighting the scale of the problem and the need for a consistent, preventative police presence.

We respectfully request:

 1. To ensure that the Sunbury Police Station is staffed around the clock to provide immediate assistance when needed.
 2. Increased Nighttime Patrols: Deploy additional officers during nighttime hours to deter criminal activities and respond promptly to incidents.
 3. Resource Allocation Review: Assess and adjust resource distribution to reflect Sunbury’s growing population and specific needs.

Sunbury, with a growing population of aprox 38,000 people, deserves adequate policing to ensure safety and peace of mind.

We urge our representatives to take swift action.

I am hoping for 1000+signatures
