I am a resident of Washington, UT who recently fostered a puppy that had been neglected. This innocent creature was returned to its abusive family without any repercussions for them. This experience has opened my eyes to the need for stronger animal rights laws in our community.

Every year, thousands of animals are surrendered or found neglected and abused across the United States. In Utah alone, approximately 29% of animal cruelty cases involve dogs (Humane Society). The current fees and penalties do not adequately deter these actions nor do they reflect the seriousness of these offenses.

We propose an increase in fees for surrendering animals and harsher charges against those found guilty of animal abuse or neglect. By doing so, we hope to discourage irresponsible pet ownership while ensuring justice is served when animals are mistreated.

Animals have rights too - they deserve respect and care from their human counterparts. It's time we take a stand against animal abuse in Washington, UT by strengthening our local laws on this issue.
