Hi, my name is Grace, and I've spent time in an inpatient psych program due to suicidal ideation. Throughout my time there, the anxiety meds prescribed were sometimes overdone, leaving me feeling overly sedated. It was the kind of experience where I felt like just another task on someone’s list—moving from medication to meditation without the necessary compassion or consideration for individual needs. Each patient's experience should be more than just a routine day for the staff; it demands empathy and tailored treatment strategies to truly foster healing.

Moreover, the lack of clear communication during my intake only added to my anxiety. Orientation that could have provided understanding was minimal. Imagine being in a foreign space, hoping for some guidance, and instead facing silence. Effective oversight could ensure that patients are welcomed into environments where they feel informed and cared for from the start, rather than negotiating with uncertainty.

These observations are not isolated incidents; many patients have voiced similar concerns about the quality of care and the approach of medical practitioners towards mental health treatment. By increasing oversight in mental health facilities, we can ensure rigorous standards are upheld for compassionate care, appropriate medication practices, and clear communication among patients and professionals.
