The Issue

Having had the privilege of working within the Displaced Homemaker program for many years has profoundly shown me the transformative impact this initiative has on individuals and families. Many women, after dedicating years to caring for their households, find themselves suddenly needing to enter or re-enter the workforce due to a loss of support such as divorce or death of a spouse. The Displaced Homemaker program offers these individuals essential tools and resources, enabling them not only to secure employment but to do so in a sustainable manner.

This program provides crucial support, helping participants regain confidence in their skills and abilities, ensuring their employment retention, and ultimately benefiting families, communities, and New York State as a whole. When these homemakers are able to stand strong, their families become more stable and the ripple effect is seen in healthier, more resilient communities.

However, this invaluable resource is in jeopardy due to insufficient state funding. The current financial allocation does not sufficiently meet the needs of the growing number of displaced homemakers eager to rebuild their lives. Without adequate support, we risk seeing a rise in unemployment and financial instability among these individuals, which would have far-reaching negative impacts on the broader community and economy.

Boosting state funding for the Displaced Homemaker program is a proactive and necessary step towards fostering economic growth and strengthening family units across New York. It empowers individuals, upholds family structures, and revitalizes our communities.

We urge the New York State government to increase financial allocations to ensure the continuation and expansion of this critical program. Your support can make a significant difference. Please join us in advocating for this change by signing this petition today.
