Increase Minimum Wage to $14 and Implement Paternal Leave in Arkansas

The Issue

I am a new parent in Arkansas, struggling to make ends meet on a wage of just $11.00 per hour. Like many others, I find it increasingly difficult to provide for my family with the current minimum wage. It's time we take a stand and demand an increase in the minimum wage to $15per hour.

In addition, as a new father, I have experienced firsthand the challenges that come without paternal leave. The lack of this essential benefit puts undue stress on families during what should be a joyous time.

Also keep in mind that working families only getting paid $11 an hour both parents must work and that raises  the issue of childcare. Which is also extremely expensive oftentimes more than your rent for the month. So 11$ cannot and will not cut it.

Arkansas is one of the states with the lowest minimum wages in America - currently standing at $11 per hour (source: U.S Department of Labor). This is insufficient for families like mine who are trying hard just to get by.

Furthermore, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, only 16% of civilian workers have access to paid family leave (source: BLS National Compensation Survey). This leaves many new parents without support during this critical period.

We urge lawmakers in Arkansas not only to raise our state's minimum wage but also implement paternal leave for all new parents. This will significantly improve living conditions and provide much-needed support during parenthood.
