I am a resident of Sacramento, CA and this issue is deeply personal to me. I’ve heard of my friend’s relatives being robbed at gunpoint and even shot at. I've seen fights near my school where guns were brandished by students. This has led me to believe that we need a change in who should be able to purchase firearms.

We propose raising the minimum age for firearm purchases to 25, along with mandatory training, stringent background checks, and mental health evaluations. This will ensure that firearms end up only in the hands of responsible and rational individuals.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), firearms are among the top three causes of death among youth in America. The CDC also reports that people aged 18-24 have the highest rate of violent crime victimization, which includes crimes committed with firearms.

By raising the minimum age for firearm purchases and implementing comprehensive checks, we can reduce these alarming statistics while ensuring our community's safety.
