The Issue

The stipend for M.Tech research scholars in India has remained stagnant at ₹12,400 per month since 2014, despite the rapidly increasing cost of living. This financial support, funded under the National Policy on Education and regulated by AICTE, is essential for students pursuing higher education and contributing to research and innovation in India.

Why This Needs to Change

1. Static Stipend for 9 Years: The stipend has not been revised since 2014, despite significant inflation and rising expenses for accommodation, food, and academic resources.

2. Increased Cost of Living: Scholars often struggle to meet basic needs, particularly in cities where most top technical institutions are located.

3. Support for Research and Innovation: M.Tech students play a critical role in advancing national initiatives like "Digital India" and "Make in India." A higher stipend will enable them to focus on quality research without financial stress.

4. Retention of Talent: Many talented students are moving abroad for better financial support, leading to a brain drain. A competitive stipend can help retain talent within the country.

Our Demand

We urge the Ministry of Education and AICTE to:

Revise the M.Tech stipend to reflect current inflation and cost-of-living adjustments.

Institute periodic revisions to the stipend to ensure it remains relevant to economic conditions.

Ensure timely disbursement of stipends to scholars without delays.

How You Can Help

Sign this petition to bring attention to this critical issue. Together, we can urge the Ministry of Education and AICTE to revise the stipend and support the aspirations of India’s brightest minds.

Let’s ensure that M.Tech students receive the financial support they deserve to contribute meaningfully to India’s research and innovation ecosystem.
