Increase Hourly Wages for Medical Assistants in Specialty Care

The Issue

In our medical office in Richmond, IN, our talented and dedicated Medical Assistants fulfill the same crucial roles and responsibilities as Registered Nurses. They work tirelessly, providing exceptional care in critical specialties such as OBGYN. Despite this, they receive only half the hourly wage.

This is not just an issue in our office, but a widespread problem. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Medical Assistants earned a median pay of $34,800 per year in 2019, a stark contrast to the $73,300 median pay of Registered Nurses (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2019). This is despite the fact that Medical Assistants in specializations like OBGYN perform similar duties and bear the same heavy responsibilities as Nurses.

Equal work should mean equal pay. It's time to rectify this startling discrepancy. We propose a raise of no less than $5 per hour and no cap in pay for Medical Assistants in specializations such as OBGYN to bring their wages closer in line with those of Registered Nurses.

Help us honor the hard work and dedication our Medical Assistants demonstrate daily. Stand with us to fight for fair compensation and recognition for the invaluable services they provide. Please, sign and share our petition. Let our Medical Assistants know their work is valued. It's time for change.
