Increase Home Assist Secure Funding in Queensland

The issue

As the Chair of a management committee that oversees work done by Home Assist Secure funds, I have witnessed firsthand the steady erosion of their value. For nearly 30 years, the allocation per household has remained stagnant at $500. This amount, once capable of providing significant assistance to households in need, has lost its buying power due to inflation and rising costs.

Home Assist Secure is an essential service for many Queenslanders. It provides free information and referrals about home maintenance, falls prevention, repairs and modifications for eligible homeowners or tenants who are over 60 years old or people with a disability.

However, with the current funding levels being insufficient to meet these needs adequately, it's clear that change is needed. The lack of increase in funding not only affects those directly receiving assistance but also impacts our community as a whole.

It's time for our State government to acknowledge this issue and take action to Increase this to at least $1,000. This will restore its buying power and ensure that all Queenslanders have access to safe homes they can afford.

We petition the Premier to ensure this funding is increased in the next Budget cycle to at least $1,000.

Let's make sure they understand how vital this increase is for our community members who rely on Home Assist Secure services every day. Sign this petition today!
