The Issue

Living in Worcester Park, within the London Borough of Sutton and conveniently located in Zone 4, should afford residents access to reliable and frequent public transportation options.  Sadly changes in the South Western Rail service have significantly impacted daily commutes and the overall quality of life for many in our community.  Pre-pandemic, we enjoyed the convenience of off-peak trains arriving every 15 minutes. This frequency allowed many of us to rely on public transport for work, leisure, and other activities.  Unfortunately, today we face reduced service with only two trains per hour during off-peak times, and peak-time frequency has been cut down from six trains per hour to merely three or four until 8:30 am.

For those of us who depend heavily on public transport, this decline in service severely limits our mobility and options.  Personally, the infrequent service has made it increasingly challenging for me to utilise public transport as often as I'd like, pushing me and others towards using cars, exacerbating traffic congestion and environmental concerns.

Worcester Park, being an integral part of Greater London, deserves better connectivity.  Many of us I know moved to this area when the connectivity was so much better!  The insufficient train services adversely affect not just individual routines but also the community's economic and social interactions.  Moreover, the alternative connecting bus services suffer from similar infrequency, offering little to no reprieve for those seeking viable alternatives.

Re-establishing the previous service frequency, or even improving upon it, would substantially benefit the residents by promoting a shift back to public transport usage, ultimately supporting environmental sustainability and easing urban congestion.

This petition calls upon the newly publicly owned South Western Rail and relevant transportation authorities, including the Government, to take immediate measures to restore, if not increase, the frequency of train services between Worcester Park and Waterloo Station.  By signing this petition, you support a return to a more sustainable, efficient, and accessible public transport system for our community.   Let's work together to restore a dependable and more frequent train service that properly meets the needs of Worcester Park residents.
